Das, from a small town, learned the game from her grandfather. She needs two more norms and a rating of 2500.

The norm came after a decisive win in round eight over a 2,420-rated opponent, in a 52-move rook ending she called "a lesson in patience". She drew her last game with a grandmaster in 19 moves to secure the result.
