Opinion: the two-bouncer rule is quietly rewriting T20

Bowlers have been handed a weapon; coaches have not yet worked out how to use it.

In the last 10 matches, bowlers used the second bouncer in 61 percent of overs.

The rule helps fast bowlers. It could also give batsmen new problems.

Since the rule changed, bowlers have used the second bouncer 61 percent of the time, but batsmen are scoring 8.4 an over off the "wasted" ball. The real winners are bowlers with disguised slower bouncers.

Umpires have enough to watch already. I would keep the rule for one more season and review it, rather than tinker now.

This is a demo story: every name, place, organisation and figure in it is fictional.
